There is a demand for cancellation of Board Exam 2022 by CBSE, CISCE, NIOS, Maharashtra Board and other state board students. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition seeking cancellation of 10th, 12th offline examination and opting for internal assessment for all. The Supreme Court’s decision on board examinations is expected to be pronounced today – February 23, 2022, after the hearing.

Board Exam 2022: A bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar will today hear a plea seeking an alternative method of evaluation of class 10, 12.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that it will hear today a plea seeking cancellation of offline board exams 2022. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that though the COVID-19 situation has improved, the classes have not been completed, a bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar orally said, “Without completing the syllabus, how can the examination be conducted? can.

The petition has sought a direction to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and other state boards to cancel the offline board examination 2022 and adopt alternative evaluation criteria.

The Bench, also comprising Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice CT Ravikumar, gave liberty to the counsel appearing for the petitioner to give advance copy of the petition to the standing counsel for the respondents concerned, including CBSE. “We will list it tomorrow,” the bench said. The petition, filed by activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai and others, was mentioned before the apex court for urgent listing.

The counsel appearing for the petitioners told the bench that the apex court had passed the order regarding class 10 and 12 board examinations in 2020 and 2021 and the same problem is there this year as well. “Last year, there was a plan after your lordship intervened. This year also, we need some kind of solution otherwise it is going to drag on,” he said, adding that further admissions would be affected and the future of the students would be in danger. The matter was mentioned for urgent listing before a bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana on Monday. The counsel had told the CJI-led bench that the physical examination should not be conducted due to the pandemic. The bench had said that the matter would be listed before a bench headed by Justice Khanwilkar.

Last year, CBSE and some state boards had canceled the 10th, 12th board exams in view of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. CBSE Board declares class 12 results on the basis of alternative evaluation criteria, which included 30% weightage for class 10 marks; 30% to class 11 marks; and 40% to class 12 marks. Whereas, CBSE Class 10 students were assessed on the basis of marks obtained in various examinations or examinations conducted by the school during the year.
